Wellbeing at Baulkham Hills North
Student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every child to feel safe, included, and ready to learn. Whether support is needed for mental, emotional, social, or physical wellbeing, we’re here to help students thrive.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
-
Teachers who help students feel welcome and included – Our teachers create inclusive classrooms where every student feels valued. Through responsive teaching, adaptive materials, and student voice opportunities like Student Parliament and Junior SRC, we foster belonging and celebrate diversity.
-
Access to school counsellors, psychologists, and specialist staff – We offer a five-day counselling service staffed by qualified professionals who work with our Learning and Support Team to address mental health, learning needs, and behaviour, promoting resilience and wellbeing.
-
Programs supporting health, social skills, attendance, and behaviour – We use evidence-based programs like The Anxiety Project and Choice Theory to build resilience, encourage positive choices, and support regular attendance and respectful interactions.
-
Help for students who are new or changing year levels – Our Learning and Support Team coordinates tailored transition plans, working with families and staff to ensure smooth adjustments through orientation, interviews, and ongoing support.
-
Clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships – Our six core values - Truth, Respect, Responsibility, Kindness, Effort, and Loyalty - guide student behaviour. Teachers help students set personal goals to support a positive learning environment.
-
Staff who know each child and work with families – We build strong relationships with students and families, ensuring each child is known, supported, and cared for. This partnership allows for tailored support and a nurturing school culture.
-
Developing health care plans for students – Health plans are created in collaboration with families, medical teams, and staff for students with conditions like asthma, epilepsy, or diabetes. Plans follow WHS guidelines and ensure safety across all school activities.
-
Open communication about wellbeing and support – We maintain open channels through platforms like School Bytes and email, encouraging prompt, collaborative responses to wellbeing concerns and fostering a safe, supportive environment.
